Eugene Lawrence
Architect, The Lawrence Group
Why: An elder statesman of Palm Beach architecture, Lawrence's reputation for excellence and knowledge of town standards greatly enhances his ability to successfully present projects before town boards and the Town Council. Some of his many notable works include the Mar-a-Lago renovations, The Biltmore renovation in the late 1970s, The Esplanade (now 150 Worth), the Sun and Surf condos and Sloan's Curve. He has served on the Town of Palm Beach Planning and Zoning Commission and the Code Enforcement Board.
Lilly Pulitzer
Fashion icon, author
Why: In the 1960s, Lilly Pulitzer designed her first frocks, in colorful prints to camouflage any citrus stains received while on the job at her in-town juice stand. Pulitzer eventually turned the initially practical attire she devised for herself into a business that put Palm Beach style on the international fashion map. When anyone mentions the existence of the Palm Beach palette or the focus of the island's influential fashion style, it is Pulitzer whom they consider as the original and lasting force behind these phenomena. She is a 2008 winner of the Women of Distinction Award given by Palm Beach Atlantic University.
