Sharon Stevens
Principal, Palm Beach Public School
Why: Principal of Palm Beach's only public school since 2003, Stevens has lead the school to an "A" rating from the state for two straight years, as well as above-average FCAT reading scores. Stevens has used various grants to fund special programs in the arts and supports faculty through the use of seminars. Stevens has assigned faculty mentors to lower-performing pupils, and has garnered the support of various civic associations, resulting in the donation of school supplies and other classroom materials. She is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Flagler Sunrise.
Dr. Donald Warren
Founding board chairman of Palm Beach Atlantic University and retired cardiologist
Why: Until late 2006, Dr. Warren was the only chairman of the PBAU board of trustees since the school's founding in 1968. Warren also was the founding president of the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties, served on executive committees and board of governors for both St. Mary's and Good Samaritan medical centers, and served on the board of governors for the former Intracoastal Health Systems. The $25.4 million, 86,000-square-foot Warren Library on the PBAU campus is named for Warren and his wife, Bebe.
