Mr. and Mrs. Michael Kirkpatrick of West Palm Beach announce the engagement of their daughter, Kelly, to Gene Platt of Delray Beach.

The prospective bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Platt of Davie.

The bride-to-be was born and raised in Palm Beach. She is a graduate of the Palm Beach Day School, Cardinal Newman High School, and the University of Miami.

She is co-owner with her sister of Alphabet Soup, a children's shop in CityPlace.

The bridegroom-to-be attended The Gunnery. He earned a BBA at Stetson College, where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega.

He is a national account manager for Lexis Nexis in Boca Raton.

A December wedding is planned at St. Michael's Church in Fernandina Beach.
