Col. Marvin Schacher of Palm Beach died Saturday, May 31, 2008. He was 89.
He was born in New York City.
Col. Schacher was retired from the U.S. Marine Corps. He served during World War II and was awarded the Air Medal for meritorious achievement in aerial combat against Japanese forces in the central Pacific.
He also earned the Presidential Citation and Pacific Theater ribbons with four battle stars for Guadalcanal, Saipan, Iwo Jima and Okinawa.
Following the war, Col. Schacher transferred to the Marine Corps Reserve and served an additional 25 years, including a tour in Vietnam.
He was a member of the New York Bar and practiced law in New York for more than 30 years before retiring to Florida.
He later continued to practice law in Boca Raton and Boynton Beach.
He is survived by a daughter, Barbara Orenstein and her husband, Michael; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Milgrim and husband Brett, and Heather Brown and her husband, Andrew; and four great-grandchildren, Jack Milgrim, Spencer Brown, Alex Brown and Bryce Brown.
Private services were held at Quattlebaum Funeral Home in West Palm Beach.
Interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va., at a later date.
