Public Comments On Playhouse, Plaza

Moving presentation this morning from Jane Volk, widow of the Royal Poinciana Plaza/Playhouse architect John Volk. Grateful that the council president Richard Kleid let her say her piece, regardless of procedure.
“Let me talk, please,” she said. “I may not be able to get up again.”
Do I need to mention she spoke in favor of preserving the Playhouse?
She was frustrated at forgetting a word or thought, but still hasn’t lost her sense of humor. “I served on the Landmarks Commission for 10 years,” she said, “so I’m not exactly an innocent soul.”
She was honored with a round of applause at the end of her comments.

Volk did return for the afternoon session, where the reception was a little less genteel. I’ve been multitasking, but I heard one of her comments called out as “irresponsible.” Aw, be nice.

Let’s Get Video In Council Chambers
I’m listening to the live audio of today’s Palm Beach Town Council hearing to decide whether the Royal Poinciana Plaza and Playhouse will get landmark designation.
Architect Ann Behar is showing and detailing the new vision for the property. I love the audio coverage, but here in Web 2.0 land, we need video. Have to check with Town Manager Peter Elwell on that.
Like how Beha established her Palm Beach street cred — her father’s long-time association with Bessemer, the original property developer.
Ooh, gotta go. Little kerfluffle under way about procedure.
