The Day After Fay

Hope everyone made it through the wind and rain OK Tuesday.

The Palm Beach Daily News building — the original part of which dates to 1926 — weathered the storm just fine. We’ve always counted on this, considering it was still standing after the devastating 1928 hurricane.

It was fascinating watching the sturdy trunks of the towering Royal Poinciana Way palms sway during some of the heartier sustained gusts. The “thwack” of sheered-off palm fronds landing on the sidewalk was a real attention-getter, too. Ouch.

Our Shiny Sheet team did a terrific job documenting the storm yesterday, and has posted a follow-up already this morning. Stay with us.
